AN IMPORTENT NOTICE : STUDENTS OF GCET (only for mtu students ie 3rd sem & 5th sem)
SUBJECT: REGARDING REGISTRATION DATE AND COLLEGE OPENING
It has been found that there is alot of rumour regarding registration date and college opening as MTU has released the registration date on 2nd of August and classes from 3rd.
PLEASE AVOID ALL SUCH RUMOURS
Though MTU has released the dates but our college session will start from 27th of july only and registration date on 26th of july

REALITY OF LIFE..!!
WRITTEN BY AN INDIAN SOFTWARE ENGINEER..
A Bitter Reality
As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in
Software Engineering and joined a company based in USA, the
land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA, it
was as if a dream had come true.
Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided I
would be staying in this country for about Five years in which
time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India.
My father was a government employee and after his retirement,
the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat.
I wanted to do some thing more than him. I started feeling
homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and
speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone
cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald's and
pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange
rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went down.
Finally I decided to get married. Told my parents that I have
only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within
these 10 days. I got my ticket booked in the cheapest flight.
Was jubilant and was actually enjoying hopping for gifts for
all my friends back home. If I miss anyone then there will be
talks. After reaching home I spent home one week going through
all the photographs of girls and as the time was getting
shorter I was forced to select one candidate.
In-laws told me, to my surprise, that I would have to get
married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After
the marriage, it was time to return to USA, after giving some
money to my parents and telling the neighbors to look after
them, we returned to USA.
My wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she
started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling India
increased to twice in a week sometimes 3 times a week. Our
savings started diminishing.
After two more years we started to
have kids. Two lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us
by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked
me to come to India so that they can see their grand-children.
Every year I decide to go to India… But part work part
monetary conditions prevented it. Years went by and visiting
India was a distant dream. Then suddenly one day I got a
message that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I
couldn't get any holidays and thus could not go to India ... The
next message I got was my parents had passed away and as there
was no one to do the last rights the society members had done
whatever they could. I was depressed. My parents had passed
away without seeing their grand children.
After couple more years passed away, much to my children's
dislike and my wife's joy we returned to India to settle down.
I started to look for a suitable property, but to my dismay my
savings were short and the property prices had gone up during
all these years. I had to return to the USA...
My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to
stay in India... My 2 children and I returned to USA after
promising my wife I would be back for good after two years.
Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married to an
American and my son was happy living in USA... I decided that
had enough and wound-up every thing and returned to India... I
had just enough money to buy a decent 02 bedroom flat in a
well-developed locality.
Now I am 60 years old and the only time I go out of the flat is
for the routine visit to the nearby temple. My faithful wife
has also left me and gone to the holy abode.
Sometimes
I wondered was it worth all this?
My father, even after staying in India,
Had a house to his name and I too have
the same nothing more.
I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM.
Looking out from the window I see a lot of children dancing.
This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these
children are losing their values and culture because of it. I
get occasional cards from my children asking I am alright. Well
at least they remember me.
Now perhaps after I die it will be the neighbors again who will
be performing my last rights, God Bless them.
But the question
still
remains 'was all this worth it?'
I am still searching for an answer.................!!!

The mere name of the campus- ‘BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus’- leads to a multitude of questions. Post-BITSAT, most would know that BITS stands for Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
1. Why the different name ?
Pilani happens to be a small hamlet in Rajasthan-on the educational map of India for being home to the country’s top private Engineering College, BITS Pilani, Pilani campus. In 2004, the BITS Pilani University expanded to include a second campus in Goa- a campus that pays tribute to the late Chancellor -renowned industrialist Dr. K.K Birla. This nomenclature being fully explained, readers will be in a place to digest more facts about the college itself.
2. Admission
One aspect that assumes monumental importance while discussing the credibility of BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus is that the institute boasts of an admission procedure that is completely merit-based.
Reservation is not there at any stage of admission here in any form.
There isn’t a single student here who does not belong here, who hasn’t set his priorities right and worked hard to get here. As alumni from any premiere institute will tell you, the connections you forge in college will help you through the years.
Admissions to all integrated first degree programmes of BITS Pilani at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campus are made on the basis of a Computer-Based Online Test conducted by BITS Pilani. The test is called ‘BITS Admission Test’, commonly known as BITSAT
3. Academics
BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus shares its academic structure with the 50-year-old BITS Pilani university, so it’s a given that the academics here are top-class. Sincere students will always find the means to make great engineers and great citizens of themselves-a claim that has been strengthened by the achievements of the students of this campus.
Other than the 4-year B.E courses BITS Pilani offers 5-year integrated M.Sc courses(Dual Degree).
The most popular (and often, least understood) of the flexibilities at BITS is the Dual Degree Course.
Though the BITSAT score cutoffs for dual courses are usually lower than those for single degree courses, the Dualites are on par (sometimes even better off, courtesy an extra Master’s degree) with single degree students in terms of academic structure and placements. A Dual Programme does not mean twice the number of courses/ working hours per semester. Rather, Dualites who have opted for a B.E. degree have a course structure spanning over 11 semesters (single degree students have 8), including a compulsory thesis semester.
4. Rankings
Regarding college rankings, you would find that BITS Goa in itself never features anywhere. It is because the university is centralized as BITS Pilani, so the mention of BITS Pilani in regular college rankings reflect both Pilani as well as Goa campus.
The college is different from the other colleges like IITs and NITs in the sense that the university is centralized. So, the certificate you get states that BITS Pilani is your university regardless of your campus (Pilani, Goa or Hyderabad).
5. Autonomy
The institute was named as a campus as opposed to a separate university. Graduating students are awarded degrees from BITS Pilani with no mention of the Goa Campus, as only the parent university has the right to grant degrees. However, with respect to most other aspects, the campus is autonomous. As an example, the institute has its own faculty and administration. Operating under the umbrella of an established university gives it the advantage of using the infrastructure (such as Practice School, evaluation systems etc.) which have already been developed and tested by BITS Pilani.
6. Course Sturcture
BITS is one of the few Indian universities to provide a unique academic structure and flexibilities in the same inspired by the structure of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
The freshman year at BITS focuses on exposing one to Elementary Science courses and Introductory courses to certain domains of Engineering. Courses like Engineering Graphics and Workshop Practice introduce students to the basics of Mechanical Engineering, while Computer Programming courses equip students with knowledge of basic Structure Oriented Programming.
The new curriculum introduced in the academic year 2011-12 focuses on branch specialization, while retaining the focus on soft skills and overall development. The number of Compulsory Disciplinary Courses (branch related courses) has increased. Besides the CDCs, the BITS academic infrastructure provides an array of Elective Courses -courses from various engineering, humanities, science and management fields to add versatility to a BITSian’s academic profile.
For instance, the BITS system permits a Chemical Engineering student to pursue a fully fledged course in Cryptography, which is a disciplinary subject of Computer Science engineering.
7. Campus Life
The four years you spend at BITS will have a lot more than just academics and job interviews. With three top-notch festivals to host, we have a number of Departments to look into different aspects of each festival- be it overall control, Sponsorship &Marketing, Publicity, Arts & Decoration or Journalism & Media Affairs, amongst others.
Besides the Departments, a number of special-interest clubs function actively on campus- performing clubs such as the Dance Club, the Music Society, the Mime Club, and the Drama Club (which perform during the festivals and organize their own Nites) and the other bodies such as the Aerodynamics Club, the Quiz Club, the Electronics and Robotics Club, the Wall Street Society and the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership-to name a few.
For the record, it is not true that the Goa campus has a private beach. But the college does have a wonderful view of the Zuari river and the small, but beautiful Bogmalo beach less than fifteen minutes away.
With a beautiful campus located in an even more beautiful state, you’ll be sure to have the time of your life here-whether you’re organizing a fest, studying for exams or watching the Goan sun set over the Arabian sea.

Every BITS applicant will wonder about the Placement scene at the sister campuses of the revered Pilani campus. While there are talks of having centralized placements for all BITS campuses, the Goa campus has fared well on its own (despite being a relatively young campus).
Sought after companies like Yahoo Inc., Oracle and Morgan Stanley have been recruiting BITSGians for the last few years. While the most lucrative pay-packages are still received by Computer Science /Information Systems students; candidates from other branches fare well with branch-specific firms such as MRF, CEAT and Tata Motors (for Mechanical students) and Nokia-Siemens, Deloitte and Sun Microsystems (for Electronics students) recruiting from campus. Dualites are eligible to sit for placements in their fifth year when most of them are doing PS-2 in different cities, leaving a small window for visiting the campus for placements. Hence,Dualites rely on PPOs (Pre-placement offers) from their PS-2 stations. The last semester saw Dualites receiving cushy PPOs from the likes of Texas Instruments and Amazon.
While the college is yet to realize it’s full potential in terms of Placements, what’s reassuring is that the graph has always displayed a positive trend. With more companies, fatter pay-checks and increased recruitment, ****college name, whatever it may be**** continues to surpass itself on the Placements front.
